FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

QUESTION:

What is Lightweight (Cellular) Foamed Concrete?

ANSWER:

Foamed Concrete is a lightweight, free flowing material which is ideal for a wide range of applications. It is made by adding a special foam to a cement mortar slurry.

Its many uses include void filling, trench reinstatement, bridge abutment work, roof insulation and many others. For further information on the uses of Foamed Concrete,
see Applications of Foamed Concrete

In fact, Foamed Concrete is not a single product but a vast range of products which vary according to their precise make up and their strength and density properties. It can, therefore, be tailored for optimum performance and minimum cost by choice of a suitable mix design for each end use.

QUESTION:

How is Foamed Concrete made?

ANSWER:

Foamed Concrete is made by adding a special foam to a cement mortar slurry. This foam is made from EABASSOC Foaming Agent, a highly concentrated, highly efficient, low dosage liquid which is fed with water into an EABASSOC Foam Generator.

Inside the generator, the foaming agent is diluted with water to make a pre-foaming solution which is then forced at high pressure through the foaming lance. This produces a uniform, stable foam which has a volume of about 20 to 25 times that of the pre-foaming solution.

Foamed Concrete can be placed easily, by pumping if necessary and does not require compaction or levelling. It has excellent water and frost resistance and provides a high level of both sound and thermal insulation. EABASSOC Foamed Concrete is very stable and will not collapse or reduce its volume whilst it is setting.
